📝 How it works:
Checks whether a truck, van or container is overloaded: gross weight from empty weight plus load, and the remaining payload up to the permissible gross weight.

Calculate truck load: how much can you carry?
A vehicle must never exceed its permissible gross weight. The gross weight is the sum of the empty weight (from the registration document or the container tare) and the load, including driver, pallets and load securing.
Payload = permissible gross weight − empty weight
| Vehicle | Permissible gross weight | Example empty weight | Max. load in example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Van (3.5 t) | 3,500 kg | 2,200 kg | 1,300 kg |
| Truck 7.5 t | 7,500 kg | 4,500 kg | 3,000 kg |
| Truck 12 t | 12,000 kg | 6,500 kg | 5,500 kg |
| Semi-trailer 40 t | 40,000 kg | 15,000 kg | 25,000 kg |
| 20 ft container | 28,000 kg* | — | 28,000 kg |
| 40 ft container | 29,000 kg* | — | 29,000 kg |
* For containers the calculator uses the maximum payload – the container's own weight (tare) is not included.
The empty weights in the table are calculation examples only. What counts is the empty weight of your own vehicle – ideally after weighing it.
How to use the calculator
- Choose the vehicle type (3.5 t to 40 t or container)
- Enter the empty weight
- Enter the planned load weight
- Result: gross weight, remaining payload and status (OK or overloaded)
