Battery Storage Sizing (PV Home Storage)

📝 How it works:
Technical sizing of a PV home battery: nominal capacity, usable capacity, charge energy and recommended power from daily consumption, DoD and efficiency.

Fill in the fields below and click "Calculate".
Average electricity consumption per day
Share of daily consumption covered by the battery (typ. evening/night ~50%)
LiFePO4 ~90%, lead-acid ~50%
0.5 = charge/discharge power = half the capacity per hour

This calculator sizes a PV home battery on a purely technical basis. From the daily energy to be covered by the battery, the depth of discharge (DoD) and the round-trip efficiency it derives:

  • Nominal capacity = demand / DoD
  • Charge energy = demand / efficiency (round-trip losses)
  • Recommended charge/inverter power = nominal capacity × C-rate

Defaults: DoD 90 % and efficiency 90 % apply to LiFePO4 batteries; one full cycle per day is assumed. Economics (payback, savings) are deliberately not part of this technical tool.
