Calculating force according to Newton: F = m × a
Newton's fundamental law combines force, mass and acceleration:
- Force F: F = m × a (mass × acceleration)
- Mass m: m = F / a
- Acceleration a: a = F / m
- Unit Newton: 1 N = 1 kg-m/s²
- Weight force: F = m × g (g = 9.81 m/s²)
Examples:
- Car 1000 kg, acceleration 2 m/s²: F = 2000 N = 2 kN
- 70 kg person: Weight force = 70 × 9.81 = 687 N ≈ 0.687 kN
- Apple 100g falls with g: F = 0.1 × 9.81 = 0.981 N ≈ 1 N
Conversion: 1 kN = 1000 N ≈ 102 kp (kilopond, obsolete). 1 kg of mass generates 9.81 N of weight force.
