📝 How it works:
Calculate the minimum protective earth (PE) conductor cross-section from the line conductor per IEC 60364-5-54.

Fill in the fields below and click "Calculate".
Cross-section of the associated line conductor (phase)

The minimum cross-section of the protective conductor (PE) depends on the line conductor cross-section. For the same conductor material IEC 60364-5-54 gives the simplified rule:

  • S ≤ 16 mm²: S_PE = S
  • 16 mm² < S ≤ 35 mm²: S_PE = 16 mm²
  • S > 35 mm²: S_PE = S/2 (rounded up to the next standard size)

For a different PE material the size must give an equivalent conductance. Separately laid protective conductors need at least 2.5 mm² (with) or 4 mm² (without mechanical protection). The adiabatic method is also permitted and may allow a smaller value.
