A voltage divider splits a voltage in the ratio of two resistors: Uaus = Uein · R2/(R1+R2). When a load is connected to the output, the voltage drops – the calculator accounts for the load resistance and shows quiescent current as well as power dissipation. Rule of thumb for stable references: keep R2 small compared to the load.
