Convert tire pressure: bar, PSI, kPa

Tire pressure in different units for car, motorcycle, bicycle:

  • bar: Standard in Europe (1 bar = 100,000 Pa)
  • PSI: Pounds per square inch (USA, UK)
  • kPa: Kilopascal (SI unit)
  • Conversion: 1 bar = 14.5 PSI = 100 kPa

Typical values:

  • Passenger car: 2.0-2.5 bar (29-36 PSI) front/rear
  • Transporter: 2.5-4.0 bar (36-58 PSI) loaded
  • Motorcycle: 2.25-2.9 bar (33-42 PSI)
  • Bicycle (trekking): 3.5-5.0 bar (50-70 PSI)
  • Road bike: 7-9 bar (100-130 PSI)
  • MTB: 2-4 bar (29-58 PSI)

Important: Measure tire pressure when cold! Pressure increases by 0.3 bar while driving. Too low pressure: higher consumption, wear. Too high: poor grip, harsh ride comfort.

Check: At least once a month and before long journeys. Values in the door handle or fuel filler cap.
