Calorie consumption when walking and running

Calculate how many calories you burn while walking, jogging or running:

  • Slow walking (4 km/h): 3-4 kcal/minute
  • Fast walking (6 km/h): 5-6 kcal/minute
  • Jogging (8 km/h): 8-10 kcal/minute
  • Walking (12 km/h): 12-15 kcal/minute
  • Sprint (16+ km/h): 15-20 kcal/minute

Influencing factors: Body weight (more weight = more consumption), speed, incline, terrain, age, gender

.

Formulas:

  • Walking: kcal ≈ 0.5 × weight (kg) × distance (km)
  • Running: kcal ≈ 1.0 × weight (kg) × distance (km)

Example: 70 kg person, 5 km jogging (8 km/h): approx. 350 kcal. Same person, 5 km walking (5 km/h): approx. 175 kcal.

10,000 steps: approx. 7 km walking distance = 300-400 kcal (depending on the person).
